Today the overall development of a country is not possible in absence of women empowerment. Nigeria has adopted education as a medium of transformation of their society. Nigeria is a poor country and the increased cost of education might also be a reason which doesn’t allow parents to send their kids to school especially girls. Due to poverty many children are engaged in household works or in labour to bring money. Those who get basic education cannot pursue higher education due to the lack of well built educational infrastructure and parents cannot bear the cost of sending them in another country to pursue higher degree.

The online education is practiced in Nigeria in different forms such as: Open University, Nigeria teachers institute (NTI), part-time programmes, weekend programmes, continuing education, correspondence education and adult education programmes. These have become an instrument in achieving educational goals. Accredited online colleges offer these programmes through distance learning.

The opportunities and accessibility created by distance learning programmes, has generated enthusiasm in the country. It has made education available to every Nigerian man and woman. Since more and more students take to online education, it generates more income for the government than the regular course. Being a poor nation, everybody cannot afford a computer which might be a difficulty. The problem of irregular electricity needs to be looked after as well. Hence, the government should look after these problems, regulate and promote online education. Women should also be encouraged to come forward and empower themselves.
